The Supply Chain Management System - 859 Words

Supply Chain Management is defined as the oversight of materials, information, and finances as they move in a course of action from supplier to manufacturer to wholesaler to retailer to consumer. It includes numerous activities such as coordinating and integrating these flows both within and amid companies. By directing the supply chain, companies are able to cut excess fat and provide products faster. This is done by keeping tighter control of internal inventories, internal production, distribution, sales and the inventories of the company s product purchasers, therefore completing the objective in a Supply Chain Management system by decreasing inventory. However there are risks taken by companies as the globalization of their supply chain is paired with concerns about the quality of products that are made in other countries may not meet regulatory standards, therefore puts their products in jeopardy of being recalled. This means that supply chain managers are responsible for ensuri ng suppliers and their products maintain safety and quality standards. Recalls or safety issues can damage a company’s reputation. Through my studies of Early Childhood Education, I have come to form my own philosophy on child development. In HCCF 467: Philosophies and Theories of Child Development, I took the Teacher Belief Inventory which assisted me in expressing my individual philosophy on child development. This inventory is a list of 30 statements for which you rate how strongly you agree or disagree. A number of points are given to each answer given, and then these scores are added up in three categories: cognitive-developmental, cultural-training/behaviorist, and maturationist-socialization. According to the inventory, if your scores are less than 10 points apart, the teacher is not a strong adherent of any position. None of my scores were more than 10 points†¦show more content†¦The children were involved in a variety of activities which allowed them to experience the bugs hands on. They were involved in the process of picking out their bugs and studying them. The amount of information they wer e able to remember was displayed the next day when the class was able to tell a classmate, who was absent during the activities, all about bugs. When it came time to assess the children on their knowledge of bugs, the children who were involved in the activities were able to identify more than the child who was absent, even after she was told about bugs. I believe that children need to be engaged in hands on learning experiences in order to assimilate new information. I think that children take in information the way Piaget described with assimilation, accommodation, and organization. Children are taking in new information everyday. The way they process the information is through taking it in and associating it with information they already know. After exploring the information, they accommodate or construct new ideas about the information. Afterwards, they organize the information into systems they can understand (Santrock, 2005). The video presents Apples policy that open is not just a word but emphasizes on the importance of inclusiveness. The video talks about the need to embrace people who are disabled, able-bodied, from different races, cultures, personalities, ideologies and differences (Ru-Chu 2013). The speech focuses that humanity is not singular but it is diverse and lingers on the issue of plur alism. In Apple, 29 per cent of the leaders are women (Hair et al. 2015). It was further reported that 39 per cent of the employees are women and are below the age of 30. It was reported that the female representation in Apple is on a steady rise. There has been an increase in the number of women since the survey conducted in 2014. The company acknowledged that it is dependent on the spectacular contributions of the women leaders in and employees in the company. Many women in the company are under the age of 30 (Zikmund, Babin, Carr and Griffin 2013). About 39 per cent of the women in the company are women. The Vice-President of Apple Kim was of the opinion that she was thrilled to be a part of Apple and her stint as a woman leader. The company has shown commitment towards the cause of diversity. During the period of July 2016 to July 2017, more than half of the employees who were recruited into Apple belong to historically underrepresented group that includes women, black, Hispanic , Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and Native American. The new people hired or recruited have been claimed to be more diverse compared to the present employees. Apple has been touted to be a multigeneral company with employees ranging between the age group of 18 to 85. The HR team in Apple is aware that the people whoa re being recruited today will reflect the culture of the company tomorrow. Apple is a global company with more than 130000 employees. Since 2014 there has been a high induction of female employees in the company and it has recruited 37, 000 women on a global basis. The new agenda in Apple is a diverse and welcoming community ushers with it a new and healthy work culture. Apple has established Diversity Network Associations (DNAs). The brand believes that a welcoming community would be helpful for the diverse communities to experience the world of Apple. The diversity and inclusiveness is posited to be useful for the future of Apple. Apple has achieved pay equity in almost all the countries. It has created opportunities for women to earn at par with men and made an attempt to eliminate their marginalization. Apple have also shown its commitment towards people with sexually diverse background, this includes the rights of the LGBTQ Equality and Human Rights Campaign (HRC). In 2017, Apple have dedicated a part of its proceeds for the Pride Edition Apple Watch Band, the Trevor Project and the ILGA. Apple is of the belief that that most powerful; technology should be at the disposal of everyone that should include the individual with different disabilities (Borchorst and Siim, 2016)This creates opportunities for everyone to work. Apple is of the belief that a more diverse future can be possible by emphasizing on the aspect of education. Apple has been the partner of National Center for Women Technology Information Technology that is committed towards the cause of women empowerment and participation of women within its network. This initiative by A pple has made an appeal to a section of audience who believes in the cause of empowerment, equality and diversity. These are the millenials. However, the rhetoric of Apple might not be compatible for sections of critics who may feel that corporate are trying to exploit the sentiments of popular sentiments of people for their own benefits. There has been a trend to incorporate the values of equality, women empowerment and diversity and the corporate enter[rises and in this case, Apple have understood that using such rhetorics would enhance their brand value and take them to a wider audience. This can also be related to Apples history of being exclusionary and discriminatory. According to a report published on August 12, 2014, Apple was accused of its lack of diversity. The diversity report published by Apple found that that the most likely person to occupy the top paying and prestigious position would be a male and white (Kernbach, Seppler and Bresciani 2015). The then CEO of Apple T im Cook was not contended with the current position of Apple and felt that Apple needs to adopt more inclusive policies. Cook further opined that Apple has shown commitment in improving the experiences of the employees and striving towards greater diversity Structural comparison of speech and statement In case of the JF inaugural address it was found that the speech proceeded in a coherent manner with pauses sometimes to allow the audience to feel the impact of the speech. The speech has been written and articulated in a manner such that it appeals to the sentiments of the audience. As witnessed above, the speech was well received and even connected with the children. In case of Apples statement on inclusiveness and diversity, youtube has been used. The use of video in a digital era is an appropriate decision. Apple has strongly emphasized on the themes of equality, diversity and inclusiveness by creating a video of its employees who are considered as assets of the company. Kennedys speech was made in the context of cold war, potential threat from nuclear weapon and the emphasis of a powerful America that is premised on the foundations of ethical values. In Kennedys speech there are loft promises and emotional exhortations strewn throughout the speech. In case of Apple the employme nt of real life people instead of models to cut across the issue of diversity and inclusiveness in a good step. The video persuades to embrace ideologies, emphasizes on the plurality of humanity and celebration of differences. Towards the end, the video is shown with women leaders from the company who have made important contributions. The structure of the Apple statement would appeal to the millenials as the key words of open, embrace, difference; plurality and inclusiveness have become essential in the contemporary time. The speech proceeded in a manner so that it would appeal to the sentiments of the audience and through images, there was an attempt to establish the stand of the company against the rising criticism it has faced over the years. Conclusion This paper was concerned with the inaugural address of John F Kennedy and the video statement made by Apple towards its stand on equality, diversity, difference and inclusiveness. It was found that the speech by John F Kennedy was well received by a wider audience including children. The speech was organized in a manner that it could linger on different themes that was considered appropriate for the then American context. America was dealing with the complexities of civil war, cold war, threats from other nations, emphasis on making America a strong nation and other relevant issues of the time. On the other hand, Apples statement focused on the issues infesting the present generation as well as the accusations made against Apple about its lack of diversity. It was found that Apples video statement was less effective compared to JF Kennedys inaugural address. Answer: Introduction: For an economy to grow successfully there is a need for the participation of both women and men equally in the entire field. The equality of the wages is a primary concern and this has been for a long time. There is a greater need for the strategies to be implemented so that the differences in the wage can b e overcome. Rationale of Research: Gender inequality at the place of work is a growing concern in workplace and this need to be resolved. What are the ways through which the gap in gender at workplace be reduced. Research Design: There will be use of both the qualitative and quantitative research. Sampling Procedure: Sampling is a very important method that is used for deciding on the persons to be used for the research. Sampling is a convenient way of conducting the research. The sample should involve some characteristics of the population so that the research results are positive (Bryman, 2012). Sample is a subset of the population. There are two types of sampling techniques that are used commonly and they are probability and the non-probability sampling (Buglear, 2012). In this research paper, the researcher is going to use the simple random sampling technique for the purpose of the research. Simple random sampling technique will not hold any type of biases. There are 50 employees of an organization in Australia selected through this technique. Of the 50 employees, 30employees are male and 20 employees are female are choosen. This will be done using the random selection. The employees will be accessed in an organization in Australia. This also reflected that there is gender inequality present in this form of method of sampling. This technique is cost effective and is done within the time. There are 4 managers of the same organization who were selected through the convenience sampling. This method helped in the easy access to the managers. The four managers will be chosen from the HR department. Data Collection: Data collection is the technique that is used for carrying out the research with a certain tool (Chandra Sharma, 2013). The data collection is divided in the qualitative and the quantitative techniques. Quantitative Data Collection: In case of quantitative collection of the data, there are 50 employees of the Australian organization selected for the survey. The research instrument used for this purpose is questionnaire. They were asked questions based on the close-ended questions. There are some options for each of the questions. The statistics that are gained will help in getting a better understanding of the statistics. Qualitative Data Collection: In the qualitative form of data collection is applied for interviewing 4 managers of the organization. The interview would be conducted on the convenience of the managers and time that they have granted. Transcripts are taken from them so that it can be analysed later. The interview with the managers will be conducted face to face and will be asked whether the employees they have come up with the problems of gender inequality. Draft Research Instruments: The instrument or the tool that is used for the purpose of the research is the questionnaire (Donley, 2012). There were two type of questionnaires framed for the research one that is the closed ended questions and the other is the open-ended questions. The close-ended questions are asked to employees of the organization and open-ended questions were asked to the managers of the same organization. The structured questions has been asked to the employees where there need to tick off answers i.e. yes or no or there is a list of options. The unstructured questions have been asked to the managers. Through the unstructured questions, the managers would be flexible in answering the questions. Proposed Data Analysis: The data that is collected will be used formulating the tables and the charts that are done through the Microsoft Excel .SPSS software will help in performing statistical analysis. This will help in understanding of the subject in a better way through the survey. The percentages that are derived from the data that has been collected will be used for understanding the opinion of the employees on the gender inequality issues that is faced in the organization. The variables that is looked for is the factors that tend to affect the gender inequality i.e. sex, lack of education, extreme poverty .The interview that is taken from the manager is used as transcripts. The transcripts are analysed to see what the manager does for stopping the gender inequality at the place of work. The qualitative data will be analysed through the method of content analysis. There is a need for ideas about the hypothesis that would emerge and look for them into the data that has been collected. Ethical Consideration: The researcher while carrying out the research must see that he does not hurt the sentiments of the employees. There should not be any pressure provided to the employees. They are to be requested to participate in the research. The purpose of the research should be made clear to the employees (Eriksson Kovalainen, 2012). They must be ensured that the information that they provided will be secure and is no way would it be leaked. There is a possibility that all the positive things are reported and there is no mention of the negative aspects. The researcher needs to build a good rapport with the employees so that they are able to give the correct information through ease (Goodson, Loveless, Stephens, 2012). The researcher might be facing the potentiality of risk when they try to question the employees for the research (Jagodzinski Wallin, 2013). Strengths and the Limitations of the project: There is both primary and secondary research done for the thesis and for this, there are limitations that the researcher faces. Strengths of the research: When the researcher conducts primary research then there is full control over the research. The research will be streamlined as per the scope and the objectives. Primary data will help in addressing the targeted issues. (Kumar, 2011).
